Wanderlust

*Came across this poem in a book I'm reading and I thought a lot of the Nature Clubbers could relate*

Wander, wander,
wandering
meandering,
the urge to roam,
to dance,
to fly,
to be,
the search for
free,
the need to see
to go
to find
to search
to do,
my thirsts
so easily quenched
so close to home
and yours so grand,
so elegant,
so marvelous,
climbing mountaintops
and elephants
and tiger hunts
and dancing bears
and far off stars
and trips to mars
and all of it
so wild,
so vast,
so free,
as you go wander,
wander,
wandering,
and then the best
part of all
when, satisfied,
complete,
and happy now,
you wander
slowly
home
to me.

Mountains

Lofty peaks rising up to the sky
Caressed by the clouds,
Kissed by the sun
Dusted gently with snow

How many tales to tell
How many mysteries to unravel
Unparalleled Beauty, Unrivaled strength

River & Lake, Forest & Desert
Slope & Valley, Sentinel and Protector
Jewel in India's crown

Guarded and Armed,
Revered and respected
Holy of Holies

House of mortals
Home of sages
Abode of Gods

Witness of the past
Testimony to the future
Statement of the present

Many mantles
Just one Mountain

*Plz feel free to change the name.. really couldnt think of anything else*

Tso beautiful!

This is what came to me when I spent time by myself at the banks of the Pangong Tso.

The sky smiles upon you,
Giving you a myriad shades -
I see the light, turquoise and the deep.

And then, there are these clouds that hover atop,
Lending you a white and grey.

The tall, burly mountains direct your flow,
Your waves lash at their feet,
Calm yet teasingly cold.

Their heads crowned by snow,
Their bodies wear robes of green and lilac and blue.

They look so stark, speak so loud,
You dance to the music of their sounds.

You hide nothing from me, for I can see through you,
The coloured stones, big and small, red and white,
They lie flat at the bottom, grinning at the sun.

The gulls flirt with your ripples,
They touch, kiss and fly,
You might never see them again.
Just like me, they might never return.

Yet, you lend me your wondrous view,
Hence, an ode to you!

Another World

We are blood,
Of one soil,
But between you and me,
A world of difference exists.
Hate threatens to engulf us all,
And peace remains surreal,
A dream so distant,
That you and I cannot reach it.

But I understand you,
I know that hope dwindles in your heart,
I believe you when you tell me
That you have been wronged.
They came to protect you,
And now they hunt you
On earth that is your own.

I see your sorrow,
And I feel my shame,
For we are of one nation,
But our lives are worlds apart.
And I did not choose to see,
Before you showed me,
How you struggle with every day.
I understand your anger,
You resentment, your hate,
Life holds little value
For those who murder and rape.

I can see in your eyes
How they are breaking your spirit,
How your heart is shattered
By the shreds of the world you see.
And though we are born of one soil,
Only your blood seems to stain our land.

But somewhere within your soul,
I hope that you can see
How my heart bleeds
For a cause you call your own.
Remember
That when the time comes,
No matter what side of a border
You call your own.
You will still be
My fellow countryman.
Someone I call my own.

Life in the mountains

Living by the sea…
Life in the mountains I see
As an enchanting glee
And there I wish to flee
So I can be free
Living by the sea…
Life in the mountains I see
With lots of ups and downs
Panting… huff n puff
Air so thin and air so cold
My head aches and my body pains
But the sight of majestic rocks
Whistle my breath away
Living by the sea…
Life in the mountains
To a small little me
It is beyond mortal meaning
As fiery light and heat merge
To swaying rivers
Unfolding passions faraway
Living by the sea…
Life in the mountains I see
Filled with faith mightier
Than the gigantic rocks

Pangong Lake

A patch of water with all shades of blue...
With the greyish white gul fluttering its wings above..
With the brownish and slow clad mountains enclosing it...
This is the place where one can find freedom..
Freedom from all chores and walks of life...
This is the place where one can experience calmness and peace....

Gazing at the serene waters of the lake i feel light...
Light from all burdens in my heart...
One can talk to the glittering lake,
The magical sky and the ever guarding mountains...
And let out all their inner emotions in one go...
The ripples forming on the surface of the lake assures me of its support...
The static mountains assures me of its love...
And the cotton blue sky assures me of its fatherly shade all through my lifetime..

This is the tale i had to disclose to everyone about the ever amzing wonder on earth for me- The Pangong Lake.

My mindset about Kashmir

I had penned down this piece of writing when we had visited the stupa at ladakh..somehow the thoughts we gathered in kashmir had crowded my mind then... well u can call it a poem or so:)
Paradox of Reality
They say its a paradise on earth..
They say its d jewel on the crown of the country..
They say there is no other place like it..
They say no one can conquer its snow clad peaks..
And yes indeed, its a place for which countries have sacrified their precious beloved sons...
Yes it is the place coz of which myriad souls are scorched...
Yes it is the place coz of which violence has prevailed for decades...
And yes it is the place coz of which peace has not stayed in the hearts of thousands...
It is the land of breath taking landscapes..
It is the land of us - The proud Indians...
And it is the land coz of which millions of minds cry for freedom.. even in the 21st century.

"beginnings and ends"

this was a poem i wrote when SSR asked us to reflect on the day at Kashmir University:

well... something like a poem.

--

hope is dead
some say
fifty years hopeless
a hundred years more without
for an identity
as true or false as any

untouched by the cosmopolitan merge
that civilizes many
torn by a rage against a motherland
hated beyond hate
torn by the yearning for a memory
that never was
fuelled by a grief one should never know
all for an identity that never was nor will be
for ever more

the World changed
as she slumbered under occupation
now she awakes to
find hope with no other
hope for herself is lost too
as also the will to reconcile true

what the future holds for this land
i do not know
where shall the memories of
hate and hurt go?

time is a healer, true
as is the end of it;
but which shall come first
for this burning paradise now?

will it be India or Pakistan
or an independent Kashmir?
who knows?

i fear none of them, for they will
not allow a peace to endure.
stranger things have happened, i know,
the Iron curtain did fall
but we know not yet
its complete use

which way forward?
which way back?
which will lead us on
the right track?

where pride is involved,
and territory and identity,
i fear we shall walk this country
hand in hand with misery
for a while longer before the tide turns

when will it turn?
one can never know
maybe at the end of history
or of all time
we will find out
when the time is right
let it not be
when time itself runs out
rather sooner
while we still light
this life.
